Today 29th May 2013 marks the 60th anniversary since Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa became the first climbers to summit 29,028ft (8848m) Mount Everest.
On May 29, 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa successfully ascent to the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest for the first time in the human history. After spending 15 minutes on the summit of Mount Everest, Hillary and Tenzing made their way down the mountain where they were greeted as heroes.
Four days of ceremonies which have been dubbed the “ Mount Everest Diamond Jubilee” is being celebrated in capital city of Nepal Kathmandu honoring the first successful climbers, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay for their greatest achievement.
Nepal Tourism Board, to mark the Diamond Jubilee is organizing joint programmes with various diplomatic missions, release commemorative postal stamp and organizing a marathon in the Mount Everest region. The 60th Anniversary is being celebrated with enthusiasm throughout the world.
