Our trip to everest base camp did not go as planned. Firstly our guide Gaygen was very helpful especially when my son got sick. There is a lot of helpful information in the reviews however mine is a word of warning. This is a highly dangerous hike. My experience seems to be quite different from a lot of the reviews I read before I left and after I returned. There is a great deal of illness. People coughing, flu like symptoms very easy to catch. Gastro illness very common. Also altitude sickness seems quite common. We saw many helicopters mostly doing rescues. At the hospital the group ahead of us explained 6 of their group of over 20 made it to base camp. Back at Lukla 2 others said the other 2 in their group did not make base camp. Having to turn back due to illness and altitude. Many evacuated. Helicopter evacuations can only occur when weather permits not so fortunate for a man the week before us who sadly passed away doing the base camp hike. Please seriously consider your health and your life and thoroughly research this hike.
