EBC – Solo Trek

I recently completed the Everest Base Camp trek as a solo female traveler with Ace the Himalaya, and I genuinely could not have asked for a better experience.

Ace the Himalaya

Ace was incredibly reliable and well organized from beginning to end. My airport pickup was on time, the hotels and tea houses were well arranged, and I appreciated having early flights to and from Lukla. I also loved Ace’s focus on sustainability, particularly providing filtered drinking water throughout the trek, something I noticed many trekkers with other companies had to manage themselves.
Most importantly, as a woman traveling alone, I felt completely safe and well cared for throughout the journey.

My Guide — Sushant Neupane

Sushant is both a terrific guide and an exceptionally kind human being. He always respected my preferences, including letting me choose when I wanted to start each morning, and checked on both my physical and mental wellbeing every day. When I developed mild altitude sickness, he helped me manage it and closely monitored my recovery.
His attention to detail was incredible. I once mentioned that I don’t like potatoes, and afterward he remembered to tell every tea house not to serve them with my meals. He learned exactly how strong I liked my coffee and would sometimes make it for me in the mornings. He also always tried to get me the best available room, even securing me a complimentary upgrade in Dingboche.

Sushant consistently went beyond what was expected. On our 4 a.m. Kala Patthar hike, despite feeling under the weather himself, he came with me, lent me his trekking pole, and stayed at the summit for as long as I wanted despite being extremely cold. On my final trekking day, when I was exhausted, he insisted on carrying my daypack in addition to his own.
What impressed me most was that his kindness extended to people who weren’t even his clients. He routinely helped friends I made along the trail with meals, flights, and logistics, to the point that one joked Sushant had “adopted everyone.” At Base Camp, he encouraged other solo trekkers, offered to take their photos, gave them guidance, and helped monitor their oxygen levels simply because they needed help.
His knowledge of the Himalayas is also fantastic. He identified seemingly every mountain I asked about and shared history, facts, folklore, and plenty of funny stories along the way.
And when I casually told him that petting a baby yak would be the cherry on top of my perfect trip, he somehow made that happen too! Even after my trek ended, he helped arrange a spa appointment for me and secured me a discount.
If I return to Nepal for another trek, I would absolutely want Sushant as my guide again.

My Porter — Tek Magar

Tek was equally wonderful. My luggage always seemed to arrive before I did, and I never once had to wait for it. He speaks great English, regularly checked that I was doing okay, and was always dependable and kind. He even joined us at Everest Base Camp and on our acclimatization hike above Dingboche when he didn’t need to carry my luggage, simply to accompany us. I really appreciated getting to know him beyond his role as my porter.

Everest Base Camp was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, and Sushant and Tek were a huge part of what made it so special. I came to Nepal alone, but I never felt alone in the Himalayas.
